Five Things That Energize Me

This is a really good prompt, as it’s making me really consider what energizes me and what depletes me.

  • Taking a walk in nature. Even during this cold and dreary time of year, being out in nature really helps energize me. I think it’s the combination of movement, fresh air, and all the life outside.
  • Cooking a meal for people I love. Being Appalachian I was taught that hospitality is the highest virtue one can show. Got nowhere to go for a holiday? There’s room at my table. Can’t afford to eat? Come on over, we have plenty. So when I’m cooking up food for people I love, it fills me with joy and excitement.
  • Having conversations with people I love. Whether it’s having a deep conversation, or telling jokes around a campfire, I love in-person conversations.
  • Gardening and taking care of my plants. I live in an apartment so I have to be creative about my gardening, but I do manage to grow a lot of my own herbs. I also have inside and outside plants that I care for. At Samhain, I planted hollyhocks and foxglove along with some catnip.
  • Writing. When inspiration strikes and I’m pouring my heart out into my writing, there is no better feeling!
